You Be Hopeful Too is for learners reaching towards something: a qualification, a place in a programme, a better result next term, a field you want to work in one day.
It draws on research that treats hope as a way of thinking you can learn, with three parts that work together: a clear goal, the willpower to move towards it, and the ability to find pathways, including a new route when one is blocked. Hope here is not wishful thinking; it is the practical habit of seeing a way forward and taking it.
Inside are two PDFs, both with your name on every page: a printable deck of A4 cards and a matching ebook. The cards follow the components of hope, among them Goals, Willpower, Pathways, Optimism, Perception of Control, Problem-Solving Ability and Positive Affectivity, along with cards for meeting doubt, fear and worry. Each card has a theme, a short description and an image on the front, and on the back a set of quotes from many voices and wisdom traditions, with room for your own notes. The ebook holds the same wisdom as a flowing book, to read on a tablet or phone or to print and bind.
The page suggests a clear order: start with goals, then build willpower, then pathways. So I suggest you begin with the purpose and goal-setting cards and write on them what you are hoping for in your studies. Then move to the willpower cards, and keep the pathways cards close for the day a plan needs a second route.
