SEL Catchup is for first-year students who arrived without formal social and emotional learning and want to practise it deliberately rather than pick it up by accident. It is the first-year on-ramp of the student pathway.
University quietly assumes you can name and settle a feeling, plan and start, read a room, ask for help, handle a disagreement, say no and weigh a decision. These are skills, and skills can be learnt. The course takes the five social and emotional competencies of a well-known framework (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making) and turns each into small skills with a clear standard, so you can catch up at your own pace and see your own progress.
Each competency has its own module, with a Foundation Note, a reader and tools you use again and again. In Social Awareness, Other Shoes has you see from another person's seat and Reading the Room helps you notice what is happening around you. Relationship Skills includes Saying No, Standing Up. In Responsible Decision-Making, Consequences Ladder helps you weigh consequences and My First Budget helps you draw up a first budget. My Practice Log keeps your reps, and in the final week you write My Catch-Up Story.
I suggest you begin with the first module, Gauge: Where I Start, and My SEL Check-In, your baseline; you re-measure at the mid-point and at the end. Nobody else sees your progress. You can try the whole course free for a day, and take it before or alongside Grow a Gritty HERO's Mindset.
